At first he is hesitant but then he starts his story beginning with his childhood, he leads up to the battle by introducing different characters and explaining experiences and events that led him to thermopylae. He is brought back to King Xerxes tent and there xerxes asks him to tell the story of the battle and tell about spartan culture. In the beginning of the book we find out the Xeo is badly wounded but alive and he is found by servants of the persian army. The story is told from the point of view of Xeones or "Xeo", one of the only surviving members of the 300 spartans and other greek allies in the famous battle. Gates of fire is a novel by Steven Pressfield about the battle of Thermopylae and about spartan culture in general. ![]()
